Update: 27th February 2016

Ryanair has made it easier for their customers to contact them

The best way to contact Ryanair to change your name or spelling mistakes is by a Live Chat service. Thanks to Rob who updated me with this information in the comment below.

From Ryanair website, go to Info. Under Customer Service click on Fees where you will find a link to their live chat service.

The trivia bit

Changing a name with Ryanair could be costly. But if you are just changing the spelling of a name or from middle name to surname and vice versa, it only costs £10 or even free. However, if you are changing the name to another passenger then Im afraid the £110 fee applies. Another way to contact Ryanair is via Twitter. Send them a tweet and they will reply to you quickly. You need to have a twitter account to use this option.

Here are other different ways to contact Ryanair Customer Service. If you dont want to read through the article, go directly to the information you want.

How to change name with Ryanair for free

Ryanair Name Change Fee explained

The Name Change in Ryanairs Fee list means a new passengers name. But if it is the same person and it is just a spelling error or changing from married name to maiden name and vice versa, then it is called Amendment.

How to Contact Ryanair Customer Service

By Phone

Call this customer service number 0871 246 0000* which costs 10p/minute as they say but actually 22p when I checked my phone bill. Depending on the staff on duty, they might ask you to send a fax of your passport and marriage certificate or they might do it while youre on the phone for free or for a small admin fee of £10.

If they ask you to fax something, send it to this number: 00 35318 121 649

*Please note, this is a UK premium number and if you are calling from abroad it will cost you an arm and a leg.

Try this number instead +353 1 812 1212 and dont tell them you are calling from outside the UK otherwise they might direct you to a premium number in your country.

By Email

Go to Ryanair website and follow this step.

  • Useful Info — Contact Us — Compliments & General Complaints — Contact Form.

Via Twitter

By far, the fastest way to contact Ryanair Customer Service is via Twitter (@Ryanair). Whether its a complaint or assistance you are after, they are quick to attend to your need. This is the cheapest especially if you are going to call from abroad. All you need is a twitter account and its free to sign up. Take note that this is not a 24/7 service. Its available from 7AM 9PM UK time.

Hi, just put one passengers short name, rather than full. Then absolutely panicked when I realised. Got on to the live chat, and they fixed is straight away. No charge. Amazing. Ryanair have definitely turned over a new leaf!

    • Susan October 20, 2016, 8:53 am

Thank you for the helpful post by the way Jem!

When a passenger travelling is to be changed because a friend cant travel how much is the full cost.ive read that its £110 is this return price or would it cost 110 each way making it a total cost of £220

    • Jemina Sentina October 14, 2016, 9:02 pm

Its probably best to book another ticket for the new passenger, whichever is cheaper.

  • April Gem Beltran October 11, 2016, 11:05 pm

Hi I recently booked a flight with my brother. But I judt noticed that I wrote his surname twice. First in the Given Name box and then I wrote it again in the surname box. I dont know if they will charge me with 110€. Any advice?

    • Jemina Sentina October 12, 2016, 5:06 am

Hi April, no, they wont charge you that for name amendment. Contact them via twitter asap.

  • andrew jackson July 19, 2016, 4:41 pm

i have business plus flights where you can change flights, dates and times for free but they still charge for changing name, Im doing it myself on my laptop, how can they charge if you have not checked in and Im doing the change myself

    • Jemina Sentina July 20, 2016, 9:09 pm

By changing name, do you mean another persons name or correcting a spelling?

  • Paul July 15, 2016, 1:04 pm

My computer has auto filled my friend as Jamie and his real name is James Ive only noticed it will I have to pay for it to be changed

    • Jemina Sentina July 17, 2016, 8:48 pm

Hi Paul, you have to tell that to a Ryanair Customer Service rep via Twitter. They will be able to sort it out for you. If you have to pay or not, only they can tell. Wish you all the best.

I put wrong surname on my sons tickets he is 11 how much will it cost me to change it its his first ever holiday

    • Jemina Sentina July 13, 2016, 4:04 pm

Rosina, contact them via Twitter as soon as you can. Since you are only going to change the surname, they should do it to you for an admin fee if not free. I hope you get it sorted.

Hi my mum has to go for an operation for bowel cancer, so will be unable to fly to Dublin with us, our friend wants to go instead, will we still need to pay £110 for a change of name?

    • Jemina Sentina June 2, 2016, 1:02 pm

In that case, yes, because its a new passenger. Better yet, get a doctors certificate that your mum cant fly so you can get a refund, hopefully.

  • Tony Higson April 15, 2016, 10:14 am

I got it changed ok in one minute for free 🙂

  • Tee-Jay Marsh March 31, 2016, 4:04 pm

Dear all really pleased for those that have had positive results with the advice regarding name amendments/changes with Ryanair but unfortunately I am never in luck and have been told I have a £110 charge per flight absolutely extortionate and a licence to print money!!!!

    • Jemina Sentina March 31, 2016, 9:41 pm

      Hi Tee-Jay

Sorry to hear about your story. Is it cheaper to pay the fine than to buy a new ticket?

    • MattCutts May 25, 2016, 11:01 am

I think there is an online campaign to get these fees refunded, for those who join the lawsuit online, the link is http://sue.casehub.com/2WNqOB9

  • Rob Soul February 12, 2016, 8:19 am

If you go to the Fees section of the Ryanair website and click on the online chat link theyll make amendments there and then for you just did it in about 5 minutes with a very helpful agent. New itinerary also sent.

    • Jemina Sentina February 12, 2016, 3:20 pm

Hi Rob, thank you very much for the info. Ill update this post with your advice.

    • Anne G February 26, 2016, 2:58 pm

Another big thank you for this, Rob. I also just contacted Ryanair through the online chat and the agent was very helpful & corrected a name free of charge. If I hadnt seen this I would have paid £110 for a name change.

  • Shella January 28, 2016, 8:18 pm

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! THEY CHANGED MY SURNAME FOR FREE OF CHARGE!!!

  • Christos January 26, 2016, 11:40 am

Thank you very much for your help, after spending 2 hours on the phone waiting for a representative of airtickets.gr to assist me and emailing them at the same time I finally got to twitter. The ryanair twitter handler was very helpful and they changed the typo in my itinerary after exchanging a few DMs. If it wasnt for your site I would have to visit the airtickets.gr office and still I dont know if I could get any help. Once more thanks again!

    • Jemina Sentina January 26, 2016, 2:58 pm

Youre welcome! Im glad I helped you sort your problem out.

  • Rikke January 21, 2016, 9:03 pm

    Hi,

I wrote the wrong name on my bf, as he has currently been divorced. What should i do?
We are leaving back to DK in two days, so i would much appreciate a fast answer.

    Regards,

    • Jemina Sentina January 23, 2016, 8:21 pm

Hi Rikke, the answer was in the first paragraph of this article.

  • Niamh January 13, 2016, 10:18 pm

Hi Jem Im flying out on Friday with Ryanair, when I booked the flights my friend said it was her full name Catherine on her passport but when we checked in I noticed it was actually her nickname Katie on the passport. Does this count as an amendment or do you think theyll charge us the €110. Im freaking out right now

    • Jemina Sentina January 17, 2016, 10:32 pm

Sorry Im late to find this comment. I hope you got it sorted.

  • Tasha January 9, 2016, 10:31 am

I sincerely hope that this works, I write down my cousins first name instead of my mums for my trip to oslo next week. (its my birthday!). Can this be amended without the steep charge?

    • Jemina Sentina January 13, 2016, 1:27 pm

I also hope it worked for you. Ryanair have been trying to improve their customer service relation and they are flying high on it.

  • Lu November 4, 2015, 10:04 am

    Hi Jem,

My uncle has a brain tumour and the doctor has advised the family travel back to Dublin to say their goodbyes. I booked my mums flights for next week and me and my sisters for the week after. I have just noticed I have put my first name on both flights as opposed to hers. I paid for her flight on her card and mine on my own. She is MRS which you can see has been imputed but the first name is under mine instead of hers.
    What should I do?

    • Jemina Sentina November 8, 2015, 4:26 pm

Hi Lu, pls contact them as soon as you can, by Twitter. I hope you get it sorted. All the best!
