Besting Boracay, Maui and Santorini in order, Palawan is voted by Travel & Leisure readers as the best island, among others, in 2013. “My pride, my beloved, my home” wasn’t even in the top rank last year. So what catapulted it to the top spot this year?
Why not? With almost 2000 kilometers of coastline, 1700 plus islets, most of which are secluded and uninhabited, unspoiled beaches, where one can have a long stretch of beach on his/her own, peace-loving people, Palawan truly gives an unequaled paradisaical experience if not heavenly.
However, like Tao Philippines asked, for how long will this paradise remain secluded? Now that it has caught the attention of the world travelers, I have a feeling that in a few years there will be in influx of tourists to this once unheard of paradise. So why not plan your trip now? Anytime of the year is good to come but best time is sometime between September to November when it’s low peak.
Another island close to my heart that made it to the top 10 list is Sicily. With its rich historical background evidenced by ancient ruins, mouth-watering Italian foods and superb locally-concocted wine, Sicily also boasts a sunny temperature nearly all year long.
Weatherwise, the best times for me to visit Sicily are during Spring and Autumn. Summer time can get as hot as 48°C but it is during this time when the peaches are at their sweetest best. Towards August to September, the fichi d’india and almonds are ready to be picked.
