This is the first travel dialog here at TwJ and I am very much honored to have Glee as my first guest. As a budding pro blogger, Glee is behind the success of Creative Fashion blog and among her new ones is Glee Dating, where singles get help finding their perfect mate online and offline.
Please introduce yourself.
I´m Glee, former highschool Maths teacher and debate trainer now a full-time online publisher. I´m a Filipina and a globetrotter. I lived in Bangkok, Thailand for six years before moving to Europe. I´m now based in Germany. I had eight years teaching experience and while I no longer do it full-time, I still maintain part-time teaching gigs. Apart from fashion and blogging, I also love literature. My ultimate dream is to publish a great novel and travel the world.
Where did you go and when?
We went to El Nido, Palawan, Philippines in December 2012 to spend our honeymoon.
How long did you stay and where?
We stayed there for three days and two nights.
Who did you go with?
I went with my husband.
How did you get there?
We had our wedding in Puerto Princessa city so we simply had to take a public shuttle van to transport us to El Nido.
Why did you go there?
It has always been my dream to spend my honeymoon in a beach or an island. In El Nido, I had it both.
What was your best experience about this trip?
It gave us the opportunity to explore ten islands in just a day.
What was the worst?
It probably is the lack of good accommodation. We went there without booking any guest house and it was peak season. Too many tourists were in the area and we couldn’t get a decent place to stay. We ended up spending a night in one cottage and then moving to another hotel in the next day. Just basically taking the rooms and dates that weren’t booked.
Would you go back again? Why?
Yes, we definitely will go back again. Both I and my husband love the place. Also, because I came from Palawan, my friends and former schoolmates are mostly there. My high school batch has already planned to hold our next reunion in El Nido. Hopefully I could attend.
If yes, what things would you do differently or similarly?
Going to El Nido is basically about doing island hopping. The beach in the mainland isn’t as great as in the surrounding islands. Probably the only thing that we would do differently is staying in a resort located in a nearby island instead of the resorts in the mainland.
What did you benefit from this trip?
Well, because it was our honeymoon, I and my husband were able to spend time together while exploring the many beautiful scenery of the area. We hired a private boat just for ourselves so we could have privacy. It was definitely romantic for us.
Who would you recommend this place to?
I would recommend this place to anyone other than to families with babies or very young kids. The travel from the city is quite long, about six hours, so it’s not convenient to little ones. Also, doing island hopping is not safe for young kids. There are lagoons which you can only enter by swimming through an opening between two large rocks. Moreover, if something technical happens in your boat, you may spend a lot of energy worrying for the safety of your kids.
Any tips and/or word of advice for our readers?
If you´re going to El Nido in peak seasons such as summer or Christmas vacation make sure that you have booked a hotel or cottage in advance. There are not a lot of good places to stay in the area so it would be wise to do the booking in advance.
Last but not the least, what is your ultimate dream holiday?
For a long time my ultimate dream holiday was to visit Paris. I already achieved it when I and my husband spent a week in France, particularly in Paris, last year. Thus my ultimate dream has changed. I now wish to spend some weeks in New York!
